About East Cobb

Cobb County is located in the metropolitan Atlanta area and has long been known to be a very family oriented county to live and work in.  Famous for it's beautiful family neighborhoods, hills and small mountains, numerous lakes and an excellent public school system.  Cobb County is also home to Kennesaw State University which is recognized as the 3rd largest University in the State of Georgia.  Although Cobb County has grown substantially, most will recognize The Big Chicken as Cobb County's oldest and most famous landmark located in Marietta, Cobb County's largest city in the center of Cobb County.  Other cities in Cobb County include Acworth, Austell, Kennesaw, Powder Springs and Smyrna/Vinings.  Cobb county was named for Thomas Willis Cobb, who in the early 19th century was a United States Representative and a senator from Georgia.  Marietta was named after his wife, Mary Moore Cobb.  The county is a part of the original and core (five-county) Atlanta Metropolitan area, which is included in the Atlanta - Sandy Springs- Marietta metropolitan statistical area.  The U.S. Census bureau ranks Cobb County as the most-educated in the State of Georgia and 15th among all counties in the United States.  It is consistently ranked among the top 100 wealthiest counties in the United States.
