About Lilburn / Snellville
The city of Lilburn was founded in 1890 by the Seaboard Airline Railway. The area previously known as McDaniel was renamed Lilburn, after the general superintendent of the railroad, Lilburn Trigg Myers of Virginia. The population was 11,307 at the 2000 census. Lilburn is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Most homes in Lilburn were built during the late 20th century on beautifully landscaped properties ranging from between ½ acre to 1 acre in size. Houses were generally constructed with a high level of craftsmanship and architectural sophistication in a wide variety of attractive styles. Residents have convenient access to state of the art medical care at four major hospitals within 10 miles of Lilburn, students attend excellent public schools in the Gwinnett County Public School system, and everybody has access to the three branches of the Gwinnett County Public Library that are located in Lilburn. Lilburn’s city government sponsors a regular schedule of annual public festivals and other community events such as Lilburn Daze, a celebration of Lilburn’s cultural history featuring over 200 local artists and craftspeople, and Lilburn Idol, a popular amateur singing contest that is also sponsored by the Lilburn Women's Club. A wide variety of recreational sports activities like golf, tennis, bicycling, hiking and jogging are also available for residents. The combination of Lilburn’s rural, small town community lifestyle and its close proximity to Atlanta’s downtown business district have made Lilburn one of the most attractive communities in the Atlanta Metropolitan Area.
The city of Snellville is located in Gwinnett County approx 20 miles east of Atlanta. Snellville is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The population was 15,351 at the 2000 census. Census estimates for 2006 show a population of 19,983. The city's commercial and residential development has grown enormously in recent years. Snellville is a fast-growing city in Gwinnett County. The city has a thriving business community attracted by the proximity to Atlanta and large suburban communities in cities such as Lawrenceville, Stone Mountain and Lilburn. According to the U.S. Census, the authority for official demographic statistics, its population has risen 30% in just the last 8 years to its current level at about 20,000. The majority of the 10.4 square mile area within the City of Snellville is residentially zoned and business is thriving along the Scenic Highway in Snellville’s commercial zone, which is the 4th largest shopping area in Gwinnett County. Tourism is also thriving in and around Snellville. The spectacular 3,200 acre Stone Mountain Park filled with interesting history is only a short 10 minute travel from Snellville, the intriguing Avenue Webb Gin outlet shopping mall is in Snellville, and many recreational activities such as golf, tennis, swimming and fishing are conveniently available for people to enjoy. Homes situated beautiful countryside that is redolent with old Southern history range from as low as $50,000 to the low $100,000’s, and many 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom homes are available from between $180,000 to $200,000. Residents enjoy the convenience of shopping in large well known discount department stores in Snellville as well as in the fashionable Webb Avenue Gin retail outlet mall, and excellent medical care is available at Emory Eastside Medical Center. The 87-acre, city government operated T.W. Briscoe Park is always open for pubic enjoyment with a 7 acre lake for fishing, a 1.2-mile long jogging trail, 8 lighted tennis courts, 8 soccer fields, outdoor basketball courts, a swimming pool, two playgrounds, and an open air picnic pavilion large enough to hold more than one big family convention. There are also some outstanding golf courses in and around Snellville for golf lovers. Snellville’s convenient location along Highway 78 between Atlanta and Athens has caused it to prosper and become one of Gwinnett County’s fastest growing cities. More than 1,150 different businesses operate in Snellville and bring in over one billion dollars to the local economy annually. At the edge of the city limits near Highway 78, the official city slogan is written on a sign that reads, “Everybody's Somebody In Snellville.”
